Reading Blog #3

This reading truly reminded me of how young the internet is, and how much older I feel growing up next to it. Over the years I have often referred to myself as a child of the internet in the way that the internet taught me mostly everything I know rather than my parents and teachers solely feeding my perspective and intellect. Net.Art reminds me of people my age who would use Tumblr to post artist expressions via the internet and the developing social media era. It’s interesting making the connection between net.art the same as a zoo and thinking about how gif(s) exist in “fish tanks” since they can only exist on the internet. I heard the other day that Estonia is a fully online government system, and the impact of Eastern Europe on the US was a surprise, but honestly understandable. It was also interesting to find out the “Walker Art Center” houses internet platforms respecting it among other fine things, I grew up going there and my mother has their large spoon with cherry images printed out in our house back home. I forgot about the prevalence of pirating sites as well when posting such thinking online, and how I initially thought that it was only limited to movies and screenshots of famous works.I’m glad that the internet connects so many people, and that it made it easier for creatives to share their works among the collective ‘fanboys’, but that doesn’t mean that it all so great and visual literacy and respect for the works is lost through a screen in some cases.
