Final Reading Blog DA#2

For this last blog post for digital art 2 I would like to discuss the intricacies of the video game Cuphead which is a relatively newer game that put a lot of thought into its composition. The game is set in the original Disney art style from the 1930’s with a new colorized twist that is quite peaceful for such a challenging game. The “boss fights” of the game and the scenery are to  my knowledge all hand drawn to truly give the feel of the original Disney animation style. With the added notes of TV “webbing”/ static adds to the aesthetic of the game's art style. This coupled with a fitting jazz sound track that follows the action of the game truly makes it a properly thought out and curated game. It is by far the most challenging game I have ever played, but it is hard to stay mad at such an enticing experience. I found this game a couple of years ago when it was released on console gaming systems, and had been wanting to get into it merely for the interesting creation story. I found it to be quite fitting for either a drinking game (sip when you die [happens a lot]) and a good relationship building game. I would compare it to the “It Takes Two” another co-op game that won many awards for its art style and gameplay experience, but I will say they are both in different realms although equally beautiful and unique styles. I think this is important game for its bold and unique construction, and its significance in visual literacy for appreciating artist.
