For this second reading blog I was given free reign to go about exploring aspects of digital media I find particularly interesting. With this in mind I didn’t want to search something out right, but explore things I see in life that seem to itch my brain in a way. In recent years there has been a movement to get more kids into organized athletics and shift the demographic of professional sports to the more adolescent by collaborating with third parties. With this there has been a popular strategy amongst the NFL and the NBA alight with turning the live broadcasts into an overlaid animated depiction. By this I mean the live games that are being played actively translate the athletes on to the field into things like Simpson characters. The commentators will then relay a live description of the athletic play with dialogue such as “Marge for the touchdown,” or something along the lines to try and convey this new story. I am on the fence of not understanding it due to me not being in the target audience and the me who just thinks it is a further money grab by the organizations by collaborating with other networking platforms. I do think it is quite an interesting approach and the way it incorporates 3D models of these 2D characters to fit in where the live play would be is very reminiscent of my Blender studies which I think is fun. It has been going on for a couple of years now with no signs of stopping and there is even a “Sony's Beyond Sports is collaborating with ESPN, Disney, and the NBA for Dunk the Halls” coming this Christmas.
