Through the reading of Maria Avgerinou's “Bain d’Images,” it is clear that the necessity of visual literacy is apparent and rapidly growing in many ways. I was touched by the notion of the Web 2.0 reshaping the way minds perceive media, and it is interesting that I was just writing a paper talking about how fear and economic desires are fueled with a large amount of ignition due to the high throughput of todays media climate. It almost feels as if no one is truly thinking anymore let alone seeing the world, truthfully I put that I was visually literate on my resume since actually perceiving ones environment/the work that is being done is a tell tail sign of an intellectual person. It is compelling to note that VL stems leaps and bounds further than just looking at a picture and seeing what the artist intentions were, and the many applications of seeing the water the fish is in helps with the perception of the problems at hand. I found it interesting that a private sector of learning is being curated to help with the new market of mass media (DVL) and ciphering through all the many “click baits” of todays climate. I feel a greater appreciation towards those who told me to put down my phone when I was outside and watch were I am going so that nothing passes me by and I could then truly see the world I lived in. Of course, there is much more to just putting your phone down and acknowledging the world of today, but the social media/media is just the bandaid to the problem of the misinterpretation life.
