Artist Statement:
My concept for the zine was to transform simple or everyday activities into action scenes. I wished to accomplish this in 2 manners, the first being the Photoshop section were I took live photos from my iPhone and brought out different segments of the collected digital data to then put in a collage of sorts. I exaggerated the actions by overlaying the images with an opacity gradient coupled with red line details to show thought/action. This segment was somewhat misconstrued by my peers in the way that it was read a little differently or more in-depth than I would have hoped, and the general premise of the zine was lost on some leading me to rethink the representation as well as the title of the zine. The other aspect of this assignment was through Illustrator which was much easier to interpret since there was a clear outline of the actions at hand and not a mesh of different images. The general consensus was that the zine represented forms of relief within one's life, which was definitely instilled by the original title of “Comic Relief” seen below that was ultimately changed to a less guiding “WoW” on the final print. I quite enjoyed the task of making a zine and hope to make more in the future but with the understanding of how time consuming each individual section takes up when making a collage-type piece. I believe I grew as a digital artist simply by understanding the correlating keys to the tools used in the sidebar (lots or +,-,A, P, C) to speed up the process.
